Dinner
Dinner for the Outer Banks visitor means seafood and
almost every Outer Banks Restaurant serves seafood. These 6 serve it with
a special flair and all also serve a variety of other entres that offer
something for everyone. You will not go wrong eating at any of these
establishments
Peguin Isle It won't surprise
many Outer Banks regulars that 2 of the restaurants on this list are run
by Mike Kelly. Penguin
Isle is located on the soundside in Nags Head around the 15 MP. It
features creative american cuisine using the finest seafood, meats and
poultry. Try one of the homemade pasta dishes or luxuriate in a classic
like beef oscar. The wine list is world class. If you don't
know what to order listen to your server's recomendations, here they are
all highly trained. If you can, stop by early and sit on the deck
outside and watch the windsurfers on the water. There are few more
relaxing spots on the Outer Banks
Windmill Point
Just south of Penguin Isle this barn like structure houses the original
bar from the SS United States as well as the ships bell. The furniture
in the lounge upstairs also came from the ship. This atmosphere of
luxury extends to the food and service as well. The chefs at Windmill
Point creative, try Duck Vanischak or the Pecan chicken breast.
Shrimp and local seafood are featured in season. Plan to wait
in season as this place is no secret. But it is worh it.
Owens Rest This
Outer Banks standard has been pleasing palates for over 40 years.
Owens is where locals go for a big night out. As with all the restaraunts
on the list the service is outstanding. The atmosphere at Owens is
candles and tablecoths. Formal dining in a relaxed atmosphere.
No crowded tables or hurried servers. Try the craqb remick or prime
rib. The seafood platter will be prepared to perfection. Leave
time for dinner and try to leave room for desert.
Kelly's Outer Banks
Restaurant and Tavern Kelly's is the one by which all restaurants
on the Outer Banks are measured. The food, atmosphere and service
offer the best the Outer Banks has to offer. Not everyone puts Kellys
on their 5 best restaurant lists but everybody sends people there
when someone asks where to go to eat. You simply will not get a bad
meal. Try the seafood platter or a pasta dish and you will wonder
why anyone else even tries. Mike Kelly takes great pains making
sure his business is ready for you. Unlike many places almost all
his employees are year round employees. Their maturity and
commitment make the difference between an average meal and an outstanding
meal If you don't go anywhere else for dinner go to Kelly's.
Flying Fish Cafe.
This upscale eatery on the edge of French Fry alley began life as a pizza
joint but baby look at you now. Flying Fish maintains high standards
for their fine dining dinners.
Expect the unexpected. Fresh seafood prepared with flair and served
with a smile. This is the place to bring your business partner when
you want to impress her. Or a great spot for a romantic tryst (except
it is always full) They know you care when you go to the very best.
Jockeys
Ribs I don't kmnow why I am telling you about Jockeys Ribs..
All I am doing is making my wait longer. If my freinds find out that
I am publicizing the place they may lynch me At one time "Ribs" was
the best kept secret on the Outer Banks but the word is leaking out from
satisfied customers. This is the place to come for barbecued ribs
and chicken as well as grilled seafood and other specialties. My
favorite is the seafood gumbo complete with crawfish and just the right
spices. This is fun eating. Lots of napkins and use your hands
kind of food. Located on the Beach road just south of Jockeys Ridge
(Ridge/Ribs get it?) this little place seats about 50 for dinner only.
Come early as waiting lines the rule in season. Order anything you
want just don't take the last order of gumbo. |
