Welcome to Bob and Carole's Outer Banks.
These pages have been designed to provide visitors to the Outer
Banks some of the knowledge that can only come from living in a place a
long time.
If you are in a hurry to get started just pick one of the topics on
the left and dig in. If you want to know how other people describe the
Outer Banks on the Internet try the General links
page as a starting place. Here you will find a listing of sites that provide
a good overview of what the Outer Banks has to offer.
Before you go too far you should read about the
biases that direct these pages. These pages are written from
a Nags Head perspective and as such the information probably becomes less
complete as the topics move futher from the Nags Head area. We both have
an abiding love of the Outer Banks in general but Nags Head is our home
and a very special place to us.
This page replaces a list of links that I had posted on this site
for several years. If you want to revisit that page click
here. (Note-these links have not been updated and more current links
are available in the rest of the site.)
If you are interested in hurricanes and current information check out

The first problem facing anyone creating a web site larger than
a few pages is how to organize the information. We have chosen
to use 4 simple headings distribute our thoughts. They make
up 3 elements of everyday life: Eat, Sleep and Play. The fourth section
Live covers pretty much everything else.
Navigating the site
There are several ways to navigate the site. The entire site forms
a loop. Accessed by the Previous and Next links at the top and bottom.
On each page the left hand column contains links to the opening pages for
each section of the site. Finally the Site Map contains a listing of every
page within the site and a link to it. If you get lost this is a good place
to go to get back on track.
The Eat section contains suggestoins
on where to eat, how and where to buy food and seafood, links to restaurant
menus and reviews.
The Sleep section deals with accomadations. Since the early 1800s
families have been coming to the beach and staying in private homes rather
than hotels. This section discusses the ins and outs of renting a cottage
along with links to cottage rental firms and real estate companies. You'll
rest more easily after having read it.
Play is the area that discusses all
the things to do on the Outer Banks. There are separate sections on a variety
of sports including fishing. List of things to do (Free and not so free).
Suggestions for day trips. Even some tips on the art of lying on the beach.
Also in this section is the Nature area. Nature is what the Outer Banks
experience is all about. this section will help you understand it.
Finally the Live section deals with
everything else from how to get around to tips on how to find special things
you need, where to get medical care and how to deal with emergencies.
There is a lot of information contained in these pages but invariably
the one thing you need most is not included. We are happy to try to answer
questions about the area. Feel free to e-mail us at Bob@jockeysridge.com with questions or comments
we will try to respond as best we know how. |
