Other Eateries of Note

As we said earlier there are a lot of great restaurants on the Outer Banks  In fact it is hard to get a bad meal if you stay away from the places you recognize from back home.  Here are some others well worth the visit:
Blue Point, Duck   A little spot in a strip mall by the sound.  This unassuming lunch spot has some of the best food on the East Coast.  Stop in for lunch or Sunday brunch.  Casual, Fine dining.

Down Under. Rodanthe A tast of Australia on Hateras Island.  All the food is good and if the view were any better you would be wet.

Ocean Blvd. Kitty Hawk Sister to Blue Point.  Upscale dining for those in the know.  Great food challenging food.  Not for the meatloaf crowd.  This place pushes the envelope and wins.  Great wine list. Top dollar food, worth every penny

JKs , Kill Devil Hills.  The reincarnation of an Outer Banks favorite.  The difference is Mesquite grilling.  One of the few places you will find a lamb special every night.   Great grilled meats and seafood.   Try it for something a little different.

Pig Mans BarBQ. Kill Devil Hills.  The best BarBQ on the beach. (sorry Bubba) Try a tuna Q or one of the other creations but make sure you have some Carolina Pork BarBQ. Its Heaven

North China Restaurant, Nags Head  The place to order take out or eat in.   Good Chinese food. try the Kun Pao Chicken

Thai Room, Kill Devil Hills Has Been called "the best Thai food on the East Coast"  try Spicy Thai noodles

Colington Cafe, Colington   Probably the best kept secret on the Outer Banks.  Located on Colington Rd just past the Wright Monument, this unassuming restaurant has a reputation as one of the best on the beach.  Call for reservations (before you come down) it is that popular.  Great local seafood and dinner specials.

1587, Manteo  As pretensious as the ads for this place are it really is that good.  The fine dining experience done right.  Great food. Great service.  located on the waterfront in Manteo.  Take someone special to a special place.
Weeping Radish, Manteo  The only German restaurant in Dare County.  The best beer in Dare County.  Be careful this place can be dangerous.  The beer is strong and the schnitzel will help it go down.  Take a designated driver or a cab.  Great for lunch or dinner.  Something very different and a lot of fun

Lone Cedar, Nags Head If you were going to recommend one restaurant that everyone would enjoy This would be it (along with Kellys)  The  atmosphere is freindly.  The views of the sound will knock your socks off and the food is outstanding.  Large portions of traditional dishes,.  Seafood fried or broiled, good steaks and the best hush puppies in Eastern Nort Carolina

RVs, Nags Head:  On the causeway.  A fun place to eat.  Good food and good views.  Always full with return visitors you wil enjoy eating at RVs

Back Porch Ocracoke  Imagine the most relaxing place in the world (Ocracoke Island)  Then imagine dining on a screened in porch on an exciting menu of seafood specialties and creative dishes.  Served by candlelight with quiet jazz playing in the background.  My one regret is that we don't get there enough.

Elizabeth's Cafe and Winery, Duck  Good food,  great (read world class) wine list.  Call for reservations

Rundown Cafe, Kitty Hawk  carribean style casual.  lots of conch and curry,  Grouper sandwiches blues music and great people.  This is a fun place.

Goombays, Kill Devil Hills  Another of the fun bunch.  lively crowd with an exciting menu.  Try the Oink du jour

Quagmires, Kill Devil Hills  The ocean side deck.  The margeritas, the happy faces.  Sundays rock but anytime is great for Quags.  Try the stuffed japs and the chicken enchiladas.  The recipes came from a great mexican place that used to be in the building.

Johns Drive Inn, Kitty Hawk  The best drive in on the beach.  Forget McDs and see what a burger and fries can really taste like.  If your in Nags Head the Acme Drive In also does a good job

Chili Peppers, Kill Devil Hills  Southwestern Fusion cooking,  Lots of people.  Sushi at odd hours.  Come in for lunch and leave when they close.  There is always someting happening.  Some folks shy away form Chiles because of the name and the reputation as a young folks place.  The food does not have to burn you mouth (though it can) and everyone is welcome and will enjoy it.  Just put on a smile and take off your inhibitions.
